Departing Cape Town, we head to Oudtshoorn, via Route 62, a town situated in the semi-desert of the Klein Karoo and famous for the trade of Ostrich feathers to all sorts of industries. Although the feather trade is no longer at its peak, the industry’s history and Oudtshoorn’s major involvement are still greatly celebrated to this day.

It is only fitting then that we visit an Ostrich farm in the area, where you will be given a tour and get up close to their feathered friends, the largest bird species in the world. Lunch is at the farm and for those who haven’t relinquished their omnivorous nature, there will be a variety of Ostrich dishes to choose from to tantalise the taste-buds!

Leaving the Ostrich farm, we go underground into an ancient network of caves on a guided tour of the largest and most intriguing cave network in South Africa, learning all about its history and fascinating geological wonders.

Back into the daylight, we head over the mountains, from arid Klein Karoo semi-desert, down the breath-taking Oeteniqua pass and into a complete contrast of lush coastal-forest, rivers and lagoons, stretching along The Garden Route.
