Cheese & Wine Tasting
Beginning your wine lands experience, we head to the Paarl region and one of its most prestigious wine farms. Here we will not only taste their magic range of wines but also their locally produced cheeses.
Your cellar tour takes place at one of the most exceptional wine estates in the world. Their underground cellar is the largest privately owned cellar in South Africa. It also plays gallery to twelve enthralling artworks by German coppersmith, Karl Heinz Wilhelm, commissioned in the late 1980’s. These artworks took two years to complete and describe each of the twelve phases of cultivating and producing wine.
Out of the cellar and into the tasting room, we sip on an outstanding range of superb wines produced by the estate.
Methode de Cap Classique Tasting
Tantalize your taste buds at the next estate on a grand experience, tasting some of South Africa’s best bubbles or more accurately M.C.C (Methode de Cap Classique). M.C.C is essentially Champagne by production method but cannot be named as such, if not produced in the Champagne region of France.
Before sipping on their delightful range of blissful bubbles, when possible (at the estate’s discretion) you may even be shown how to sabrage; opening a bottle of M.C.C by sword!
Lunch & Pinotage Tasting
In the Stellenbosch wine region, we settle down to a delectable, gourmet lunch, at an iconic wine estate that specializes in a truly South African wine varietal, Pinotage.
The creation of the Pinotage varietal was birthed by a South Africa university lecturer in Stellenbosch, in a fluke experiment, cross-pollinating two well-known French varietals, Hermitage (Cinsaut) and Pinot Noir. Forgotten by him, when leaving the university and moving residence, the plants were later discovered and miraculously rescued by another lecturer, his successor at the university. Up until recently, South Africa was the only country in the world producing Pinotage. Today, other countries produce it too, but without the same level of expertise and experience, resulting in far lower quality Pinotage than that produced in South Africa.
Incidentally, this wine estate is considered the home of Pinotage and after lunch we’ll delve into the depths of this specialized varietal, tasting their unique range of wines.
Chocolate & Wine Pairing
The grand finale at Our last wine estate is one of astounding elegance and splendour, where we’ll pair a selection of fine hand-crafted chocolates with a range of exceptional wines produced by the estate.
Beaming royally, from cheek to cheek, we return to your lodge for the night.
